Initiated in early 2020, Gentō is the result of a multi-year creative dialogue between Steve Rothery and Thorsten Quaeschning. The project was developed through focused recording sessions held in Berlin and at Rothery’s home studio in Southwest England. The music explores the intersection of Rothery’s signature melodic guitar work and Quaeschning’s analog sound design, resulting in a “film without images” that draws inspiration from the history of the moving image.

The album features a notable performance by drummer Alex Reeves (Elbow), whose rhythmic contributions provide the foundation for the record’s immersive, atmospheric textures. The title Gentō—derived from the Greek for “life” and “to look”—reflects the project’s intent to offer a musical survey of life and perception. The release is available in multiple formats, including a CD+Blu-ray Digipak featuring High-Res, Dolby Atmos, and 5.1 Surround Mixes, as well as a heavyweight 2LP gatefold vinyl.
